Hi! We're Matt, Chanté, with dogs, Aspen and Minerva, and we would like to welcome you to The Prairie House! We hope to be your hosts on your next Pepin, WI visit. We have two cozy rooms that we rent out within our home. Our house is one of the original farmhouses in the area, showing up on tax records as far back as the mid-1800s. This house is one of the houses that would have been standing when Laura Ingalls Wilder lived in the area. Our home has a lot of unique charms to it, and we are currently working to make upgrades along the way.

No Animals

Due to being a homeshare and the fact that Aspen and Minerva dogs live here, we do not allow animals in our rooms.

We have two rooms for you to choose from. The "Queen Room" has one queen bed with an optional futon chair to sleep up to three people. While the "Twin Room" has two twin beds to comfortably sleep two people. Both rooms share a first-floor bathroom.

Local Wineries

We are right in the middle of the Great River Road Wine Trail. In Pepin you can find Villa Belleza Winery. In Stockholm you can find Maiden Rock Winery and Cidery.

Cultural Sites

Take a trip out to visit the Laura Ingalls Wilder Wayside, site of Little House in the Big Woods or visit one of the multiple cultural pull-offs along HWY 35.

Our two favorite shopping centers for unique boutiques include Stockholm and Alma. Each village has a wonderful array of independent shops showcasing work from local artists.

Outdoor Activities

Take the time to get out on the water either on a sailing trip or kayak or canoe. We have a few outfitters we can recommend as well as sailing companies. We have resplendent fishing opportunities as well as some great hiking trails.

Bird Watching

The convergence of the Mississippi and Chipewa Rivers creates magnificant backwaters that make for incredible bird viewing in addition to the fact that the Mississippi is a migration flyway.

Depending on when you visit you can checkout the Widespot Performing Arts Center in Stockholm, Big River Theatre in Alma or Sheldon in Red Wing for various shows. Additionally there are many venues available for live music on any given weekend.

"Amanda’s place is so wonderful. Thoughtful touches at every turn! Great value for a stay where guests are clearly valued by their hosts." - Patrick
